Can't help posting THIS
Aug. 20th, 2006 10:57 pm+ [p. 21] Ponder Stibbons looks a bit like Harry Potter.
Or so people keep saying, which is a bit unfortunate, because ever since the success of the Harry Potter books, Terry is hearing increasingly more often from people who ask if (or sometimes even demand he acknowledge that) he 'got' Unseen University from Hogwarts, etcetera, etcetera.
In this case, the first drawing of Ponder Stibbons (looking exactly as he does here) appeared in the 1996 Discworld Portfolio, whereas the first Harry Potter novel was not published until 1997...
Terry says:
"Ponder Stibbons was indeed first drawn in 1996. I, of course, used a time machine to 'get the idea' of Unseen University from Hogwarts; I don't know what Paul used in this case. Obviously he must have used something."
Oooh boy! Mwahahahahaha! ecscetera as Granny would say. And silly me how used to think Ponder looked a LOT like Bill Gates...
ETA: Taken from Discworld Annotations about "The Last Hero" illustratd by Paul Kidby who, IMO, is the only one to really illustrate properly Pterry's world.
Also, please! La Rowling copied every fucking thing from Pterry and we all die-hard - *g* - Pterry fans who were IN since the 80s - actually I happenedd to be IN even before that by paternal fandomish right :p - KNOW, La Rowling stole the Magic school idea from Pterry and that poor unfortunat woman who wrote the 'Witch' series.
Sucks to be a Potterfan.
ETA AGAIN: Y'know, it's such a refreshing balm to go back to L-space after for some masochistic reasons you've stuck yerself in the HP fandom...

In the The Lord of The Rings books, various weapons glow blue in the presence of Orcs and other evil creatures.

Sorry, I mean, I have the books right by my side (don't it sound like some sort of hymn? Sung to the music of 'Jerusalem' no less) but to actually go net and read the annotations is SOOOO refreshing. I think I may be going insane, but, like LPTWIO!Draco, I've lost all contacts with The Outside. Maybe that's why I love that fic so much, who knows? It makes a disturbing kind of sense to me. Should I be more wary of things? Or should I keep enjoying myself with annotations like the above? (From Wee Free Men BTW)
